June is Pride Month

June is Gay Pride Month. Although we (Tom and Cindy) are straight, we stand with all our LGBTQ friends in recognition of the significant progress that has been made in their struggle for equality and of the work still needed to to achieve the rights that are still being denied. When marriage equality finally became law, we celebrated and cried along with our friends.

We are proud members of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and had been working with same sex couples for many years, performing and photographing commitment ceremonies. It was an easy transition for us when same sex marriage was legalized. There is very little difference between a straight wedding and an LGBTQ wedding, but of course, some old traditions don’t fit a gay wedding, but that’s fine, because many straight couples are ignoring some long-standing traditions. Cindy encourages all her wedding officiant clients to change the wording in her ceremonies, if it doesn’t fit their personalities, feelings, or lifestyle. It’s their wedding, and they should truly mean what they are saying to each other. Tom knows that some traditional poses don’t work for everyone, so he works with each couple to provide the best photographic wedding coverage possible. If you’re planning a same sex wedding, here is a link to a planning guide: http://publications.weddingwire.com/i/832260-lgbtq-planning-guide. If you are in the Birmingham, Alabama area, call us at 850-803-1161 or email us at photocrafttom@gmail.com to make an appointment for a no obligation, free consultation. Let us help you make your wedding day perfect.
